On 19th January, 2017, School of Business Management (SBM) received the delegation from the University of Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. The team which was headed by Prof. Dr. Sahid Susanto and was accompanied by Prof. Madya Dr. Titi Savitri Prihatiningsih, Dr. Singgih Hawibowo and a total of 23 Master students. They were warmly welcome by the Dean of SBM, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah, Deputy Dean Assoc Prof Dr Fais Ahmad, HODs, Program coordinators and SBM office bearers.
While in SBM, the UGM delegates were engaged in a dialogue session and have managed to reach a level of agreement in terms of academic cooperation in the future. Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah has taken the opportunity to introduce UUM generally and SBM specifically, highlighting on the strength of resources, knowledge and the infrastructure of the campus and staff members. Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah expressed the hope that more cooperation can be carried out to strengthen the academic ties between the two countries in the future. Any bilateral relations between UUM and UGM are deemed to be a profitable collaboration as both universities are AACSB accredited bodies.
Overall, the dialogue session was successful in providing opportunities for SBM and UGM to discuss and exchange ideas that have open doors for strategic partnerships.
On 19th January 2017, in the heat of the FRGS call for applications, the School of Business Management (SBM) has organized a Workshop on Generating Proposals FRGS Grants Phase 1/2017 and was conducted by Prof. Dr. Zakaria Abas who was willing to share his knowledge and experience in the evaluation of FRGS grant. Prof. Dr. Zakaria Abas is an individual with extensive background and has been involved in the generation and evaluation of FRGS proposals at the university and national level.
He stressed that the researchers must ensure that the research title meets the basic concept of the ‘fundamental’ requirement and the research proposals must reflect the impact on society and is closely related to the 'niche' areas focused by the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia.
The workshop was attended by Prof. Dr. Khulida Kirana Yahaya who has also provided some useful suggestions for the generations of FRGS proposal based on her experience as a FRGS assessor and head of FRGS research grants.
SBM was very grateful to Prof. Dr. Zakaria Abas who was willing to share his valuable insights with SBM citizens.
The School of Business Management (SBM) and Institute of Quality Management (IPQ) received courtesy visit from Mr. Todd Hornal, the Director of Strategic Solutions (APAC) of Times Higher Education which is based in Australia.
A discussion was held between IPQ representatives, SBM representatives and Mr. Hornal. IPQ was represented by its Director, Associate Professor Dr. Faudziah Zainal Abidin, Mr. Muhamed Nor Azman Nordin and Ms. Nursyidah Abd Wahab while SBM was represented by Dr. Narentheren Kaliappen, Strategy Officer, Dr. Francis Chuah, QS Ranking Officer and Dr. Noor Fareen Abdul Rahim, Marketing Manager, on behalf of the Dean of SBM, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah.
The one-and-a-half-hour discussions resolve around the criterions used for university rankings in the Times Higher Education World Rankings, with Mr. Hornal providing useful insights and tips on the methodology used for the ranking system. The representatives were also introduced to Times Higher Education World Rankings data system, a system that allows respective university to benchmark its performance against the world’s top university.
On 11th January 2017, the School of Business Management (SBM) held an offcial ceremony of presentation of credentials to the newly appointed officials and the presentation of tokens of appreciation to the former management team.
The ceremony which was attended by the former Dean of SBM, Prof. Dr. Rushami Zien Yusoff, and joinned by the former officials was organized to appreciate the contributions and sacrifices made by the team during their tenure as SBM Management team. Prof. Dr. Rushami Zien Yusoff in his speech expressed his deepest appreciation and thanks all former officials for their cooperation and support, given during his service from 1 July 2011 to 31 December 2016. He also expressed his best wishes to all the newly appointed officers.
Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah in his welcoming speech has also expressed the overwhelmed and grateful feelings for his appointment as the Dean of SBM. He further added that he is ready to assume the responsibilities and trust given and expect cooperation and support from all the newly elected officials. Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah has also conveyed his deep appreciation and gratitude to all former SBM management teams for their excellent services to bring SBM to the right track in heading towards the mission and vision of SBM.
At the end of his speech, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah hopes to work with all staff involved as a team to ensure that SBM will continue to achieve the objectives and thereby fullfills the demands of the University mission and vision
SBM ONLINE: Jawatankuasa Kebajikan SBM, Pusat Pengajian Pengurusan Perniagaan telah menganjurkan program Kayuhan Flora dan Fauna pada 4 Februari 2020 yang lalu. Anjuran program ini adalah bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesedaran alam sekitar dikalangan staf SBM disamping dapat menikmati kehijauan alam semula jadi. Kayuhan sepanjang 10 km ini melibatkan seramai 23 staf akademik dan pentadbiran SBM di sekitar kampus. Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Kebajikan, Encik Mohd Abidzar bin Zainol Abidin berkata sambutan program kali ini mendapat sambutan yang amat menggalakkan dan diharapkan agar program sebegini dapat diteruskan pada masa akan datang memandangkan ianya juga merupakan aktiviti yang sihat.
SBM ONLINE: 10 Disember 2019, seramai 338 orang pelajar yang mengikuti Kursus Kreativiti & Inovasi (BPME 2023) semester A191 telah terlibat dalam Creativity & Innovation Day 2019 yang telah diadakan di DKG 2/1 dan DKG 2/2. Tema semester ini adalah Multicultural Fashion iaitu ciptaan pakaian gabungan pelbagai budaya seluruh dunia melalui penggunaan bahan-bahan kitar semula. Pelbagai fesyen telah diperagakan melalui penggunaan plastik sampah, plastik pembungkus makanan, botol, kain perca, straw, kertas dan sebagainya. Hasil gabungan 7 kumpulan kelas dengan 5 orang pensyarah telah berjaya menghasilkan 75 fesyen pakaian bagi semester A191.
Prof. Madya Dr. Azahari Ramli selaku wakil Pemangku Dekan SBM telah hadir untuk memberi kata aluan seterusnya merasmikan majlis tersebut. Beliau mengucapkan setinggi-tinggi tahniah kepada semua pelajar yang berjaya menghasilkan produk ciptaan ide mereka seterusnya memperagakan kepada penilai dan penonton. Seramai 5 orang juri yang terdiri daripada pensyarah SBM dan industri telah dijemput untuk menilai hasil produk para pelajar.
Menurut Penyelaras Kursus, Dr. Azrain Nasyrah Mustapa, program ini merupakan acara yang ditunggu oleh pelajar kerana ianya merupakan “acara wajib BPME 2023” setiap semester melalui penentuan pelbagai tema yang berbeza. Selain itu, program ini juga dapat memberi peluang kepada pelajar membentangkan inovasi produk mereka serta mendapatkan input daripada penilai. Program berakhir dengan pemberian cenderahati kepada penilai-penilai jemputan serta sesi bergambar beramai-ramai.
